The Holmes Shea Band is the brainchild of singer/songwriters John Holmes (Pacific Twang, The Bigshots, Weyers Holmes) and Jamie Shea (The Walrus, Pacific Twang, Chrome Dinette). The Band is rounded out by powerhouse musicians Dave Lyon on bass and Michael O’Neal on drums (both of The Walrus) and the stellar Mark Kelly on saxophone (The Atlantics, Makedonians, Bellingham Youth Jazz).
The question “What kind of music do you play?” is hard for songwriters who relish exploring diverse sounds and genres. Much of the material is rock-based, sometimes with an infusion of funk, r&b, and/or latin. Some of the tunes lean toward jazz, others toward a dreamy fusion feel. The band is constantly exploring new ground, but have had people say the music reminds them of Bonnie Raitt, Santana and even Flora Purim. Mixed in are diverse dance covers from the last 40 years including tunes by Talking Heads, Aretha Franklin, Tom Petty and Sam and Dave.
